To complement our ongoing work with Wirral Council, Digital Urban is hosting three school engagement events related to the thrilling redevelopment of Dock Branch Park in Birkenhead inviting students to discover the old railway route which is being reimagined as an urban park with spaces to play, to linger and to explore.

Our team has created two immersive experiences to enable the next generation to explore the new urban park via virtual reality and through a handheld urban explorer experience. These experiences capture the magic of the plans – reminiscent of New York’s High Line in their ambition to turn disused urban infrastructure into places for the next generation.

Local authorities that we work with are forward-thinking in recognising that engaging young people in the future of their community is vital.

Digital Urban cohosted the first event with Luke Bithell from Wirral Council at Wirral Hospital School, where the team stressed Wirral’s focus on place, people and heritage and we asked for pupil feedback.

We look forward to sharing the feedback about the children’s priorities for the park – whether they wanted a focus on street art or heritage – take a guess. Our next engagement events are planned for the new school year – one with Wirral Met College and the third with secondary pupils.

At a recent consultation a young person exclaimed in glee that her first time on a bike happened to be in another world (a virtual reality world).
