“Simon and the Digital Urban team worked closely with Surrey County Council in Summer 2022 on our Your Neighbourhood in 3D project. We wanted to understand digital citizen engagement tools better. Funded by a DLUHC PropTech grant, the Digital Urban.Place team produced an exciting and immersive game in a pre-existing 3D model by Munrostudios. It could be played using a joystick or a VR headset.

We were really pleased with what the team came up with to a tight timescale. Together, we provided free immersive events that were quickly sold out, with many other people taking up a drop-in option. The events created a positive environment in which people could understand options for changes to their town better. It helped them to make educated judgements on their preferences. The activity was particularly popular with families and groups not usually reached by traditional consultation methods.

The team was highly professional and technically accomplished in setting up the equipment and assisting people to use it. They tied in seamlessly with the Council project team to deliver events in different settings. We learned so much from working with Digital Urban.Place about how to engage people better in aspects of the planning system applicable to an upper tier local authority. We would definitely work with them in the future.”

“Digital Urban exceeded our expectations, delivering a product that
really helped people to visualise and experience for themselves what
stations of the future could be like. The virtual reality experiences
significantly helped attract a wider demographic and worked well alongside
and to complement more traditional forms of engagement. The evaluation
from Explore Station particularly highlighted that visitors were entertained
whilst also being informed and empowered to influence the design of
the future of British railway stations. We look forward to continuing
to work with them.”

“Wirral Borough Council is delighted with our Digital Urban model for Birkenhead. It is proving to be a real asset, helping staff, senior members and councillors all to engage in the development and design of major regeneration projects and masterplans. As we continue on this path the digital model will prove its value further helping us to deliver our ambitious programme for the regeneration of Birkenhead as part of the Birkenhead 2040 vision”
— Keith Keely, Programme Manager, Wirral Borough Council
