Paxton’s Conservatory at Chatsworth House
Our first ever digital histories installation was a virtual reconstruction of Joseph Paxton’s Great Glass Conservatory at beautiful Chatsworth House.
The Glass Conservatory was Paxton’s first major building project. It was built in 1840 and demolished in 1920 so this was the first opportunity for visitor to Chatsworth to see the amazing structure in 100 years.
The installation went live at RHS Chatsworth flower show to great acclaim and great publicity. One of the first people to have a look was TV colling personality Mary Berry and gardener Alan Titchmarch. Both thought it was great. It was also the feature of a TV documentary.
In the week of the flower show, over 5,000 people spanning many generations enjoyed the experience, including Jane aged 85 who thought “it was just lovely.”
