Designing the Stations of the Future

We collaborated with Network Rail and the Design Council to create an immersive virtual reality experience for ExploreStation. This initiative aimed to gather public feedback on the potential future designs of train stations.

Attendees at the event had the opportunity to try on a virtual reality headset and explore various design ideas for future train stations.

They could imagine what it would be like to navigate the station while carrying luggage and pulling up alongside the platform. The experience included hearing train announcements and getting a sense of how the design would feel at different times of day and in different weather conditions. It also showcased the proposed materials and components, as well as how the design would cater to local communities and the unique characteristics of different places.

A report commissioned for Explore Station revealed that the virtual reality experience successfully attracted a younger and more diverse audience. It proved to be particularly effective in engaging individuals with limited knowledge of design concepts and technical details, allowing them to actively contribute to shaping improved travel experiences.
